Enhanced Green Economy through a Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Coffee Value Chain (GREEN CUP – Coffee IP)
2024–2028 | Client: Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry / European Union (EU) / Agence Française de Développement (AFD)

Project Overview
Coffee is one of Lao PDR’s most important agricultural exports and a key source of income for rural communities, particularly in the southern highlands. To strengthen the sector’s resilience and competitiveness in the face of climate change and evolving global markets, the GREEN CUP – Coffee Implementing Partner was launched as a flagship initiative co-financed by the EU and AFD. The project supports the development of a climate-resilient and inclusive coffee value chain through improved production practices, stronger sector governance, enhanced quality standards, and expanded market opportunities for producers and local.
LCG’s Role
Lao Consulting Group (LCG), in partnership with GRET, provides technical assistance and implementation support across multiple components of the project. LCG facilitates the implementation of 24 sub-projects across 21 districts to improve production systems, strengthen product quality, and expand market access for Lao coffee. The team works closely with sector institutions such as the Lao Coffee Association (LCA) and the Comité National du Café Lao (CNCL) to strengthen governance and promote emerging quality standards, while also supporting the Coffee Export Roadmap (2021–2025) and preparations for Lao PDR’s future membership in the International Coffee Organization. LCG also contributes to coffee branding and promotion initiatives and ensures effective project management, including procurement, financial administration, and monitoring and evaluation.
Impact
Building on the achievements of the Project of Reinforcement of Commercial Capacity for Coffee in Northern Lao (PRCC-CN) initiative, the GREEN CUP project strengthens the sustainability and international positioning of the Lao coffee sector while promoting climate resilience and inclusive economic growth. By supporting farmers, sector institutions, and local enterprises, the project contributes to improved livelihoods, stronger value chains, and enhanced recognition of Lao coffee in international markets, while fostering opportunities for women entrepreneurs and rural communities.
