Project Overview
The Thanaleng Dry Port and Logistics Park Project in Vientiane Capital was developed to strengthen Lao PDR’s regional trade connectivity and logistics infrastructure. Initiated by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project aims to establish a modern inland logistics hub adjacent to the existing Thanaleng railway station. The development covers approximately 35 hectares and includes a container yard for freight cargo, warehouses, workshops, bulk storage facilities, temperature-controlled storage areas, and customs clearance facilities. By enhancing cargo handling and logistics services, the project supports improved trade efficiency and regional economic integration.
LCG’s Role
LCG, acting as the lead firm in a joint venture with Innogreen Engineering Co., Ltd. (ING), was contracted to conduct the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed logistics park as part of the project’s feasibility study. LCG carried out field surveys, environmental and social data collection, and stakeholder consultations required to assess potential project impacts. The team prepared the ESIA report and key supporting components, including the environmental management plan, socio-economic assessment, and resettlement plan, ensuring that environmental and social considerations were fully integrated into the project’s assessment process.
Impact
Through the ESIA process, LCG helped identify potential environmental and social risks associated with the proposed development and provided recommendations and mitigation measures to support responsible project planning. The assessment contributes to ensuring that environmental safeguards, community considerations, and resettlement requirements are appropriately addressed in line with national regulations and good international practice.
