Vientiane International School Campus Expansion — Design and Construction Supervision
2020–2022 | Client: Vientiane International School (VIS)

Project Overview
Vientiane International School (VIS), established in 1991 under the auspices of the United Nations and one of Laos’s most prominent international educational institutions, undertook a significant campus expansion to modernize and enhance its facilities for its growing student body. The project involved the demolition of existing changing rooms and outdated sport facilities and their replacement within the same footprint with two architecturally striking new buildings: a Fitness and Wellness Centre with Gymnasium (totaling approximately 4,777 m²) and a two-level Performing Arts and Administration building housing an auditorium, music and drama studios, and administrative offices. Both buildings feature long-span 40-metre structural steel frames with majority glazing facades, and incorporate sustainability elements including natural ventilation, natural lighting, green space, and solar power — setting a new benchmark for contemporary educational architecture in Laos. The combined construction contract value for structural and architectural works was US$4.3 million, with a separate US$1.7 million mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract.
LCG’s Role
LCG’s engagement with VIS spanned the full project lifecycle across two consecutive and directly linked contracts — a clear expression of the client’s confidence in LCG’s performance at each stage. In the first contract (Stage 1, March 2020–January 2021), LCG collaborated with concept architect EIW to translate design concepts into a complete set of detailed construction drawings covering architectural, structural, civil, and MEP components. LCG also prepared construction permit applications and tendering documents, and assisted VIS in procuring contractors for the construction works. On the strength of this design work, VIS directly engaged LCG for the second contract (February 2021–December 2022) to provide contract administration and construction supervision of both the structural and architectural works contractor, Khamphay Sana Group, and the MEP contractor, Comin Asia. LCG’s supervision team oversaw quality control, programme management, and contract administration through to completion across all disciplines.
Impact
The completion of the VIS campus expansion delivered a transformative upgrade to one of Laos’s premier international schools, providing students and staff with world-class sports, wellness, and performing arts facilities that meet modern educational and sustainability standards. The project demonstrated LCG’s capability to deliver complex, privately-financed institutional buildings of architectural distinction — managing long-span steel structures, high-specification glazed facades, and multi-contractor coordination within a live school campus environment. VIS’s decision to retain LCG directly from design through to construction supervision, based on the quality of the initial design engagement, reflects the strength of the relationship LCG builds with clients and its ability to provide seamless, end-to-end project management on technically demanding building projects
